Terms and Conditions

Assessment session(s): 90 mins

This is an opportunity for us to meet, discuss your needs and think about how best to meet them. You will have the opportunity to tell me not only about the problems you are having, but also about what is going well and how things have changed over time. Brief, screening questionnaires may be completed as part of the assessment process.  At the end of the assessment, usually 1-2 sessions, I will share with you my initial thoughts and a preliminary formulation of the problem. A further fee is charged if you require an indepth clinical report.

Please note, children are seen with their parent(s) at assessment.

Treatment sessions: 50 mins

If we both agree that therapeutic input would be helpful and that I am a suitable person to undertake the work, a regular time slot will be offered  taking into account our respective schedules. If we  decide therapeutic input would be helpful but that an alternative health professional would be better placed to provide appropriate care, I will try to direct you towards appropriate help. You are not under any obligation to proceed into therapeutic treatment if you decide this is not what you want.

Please note, treatment sessions for children are usually attended by parent and child together, as for many presenting difficulties this is  an effective way of delivering the changes desired. Young people around 12 years and over may be seen on their own for part of the treatment, if this is agreed as appropriate by the parent. In this case, a parent must remain at the session location whilst the child is seen.

Cancellations:

If you are planning a holiday or other arrangement which will interfere with your session, please give me as much notice as possible. I will do likewise if I need to rearrange our schedule, and when I take my annual leave. I require at least 48 hours notice of a cancellation. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice attract a full fee.

Confidentiality:

Confidentiality is maintained throughout our work. There are however certain exceptional circumstances in which I have a legal or ethical obligation which conflicts with clinical confidentiality, and this will be more fully explained in your first session. If this is the case, I will notify you where appropriate.

From time to time, I seek consultation with senior colleagues in accordance with the Health Care and Professions Council and the British Psychological Society professional practice guidelines on supervision.  My secretary, who is also bound by confidentiality, is party to written clinical information in the form of letters/reports, as well as information for billing and tax purposes.  Apart from these exceptions, permission will be sought before discussing any aspect of our work with anyone else. I am registered with the Independent Commissioner’s Office and all information held about you, electronically or otherwise, is treated according to the Data Protection Act (1998).

Emergencies:

If you find yourself in crisis and require urgent attention, you should approach your GP in the first instance, or the accident and emergency service at your local hospital. You may try to reach me on the telephone number below, but I cannot guarantee that I will be available. There is a facility to leave a message on this number, however I am not always able to check this regularly each day, so I cannot guarantee I can get back to you before our next appointment. Should an emergency consultation with me be unavoidable, a higher rate of fee will apply.

Fees:

Psychological assessment usually includes 2 sessions (1.5hrs and 50 mins respectively), and some brief screening measures). Further standard sessions are 50mins, and charged at £130 per hour. Additional work essential to the presenting difficulties (e.g. school observation) is also charged. From time to time an incremental increase in fees may be implemented but this is not more often than once per year, with a one month period of notice given for any planned increase. The fee should be paid in advance by direct bank transfer.  If a detailed assessment report or treatment letter is required a further fee is charged.

Please feel free to raise any questions which you may have about these arrangements, and I will be happy to discuss them with you.

Completion of the registration details constitutes understanding and agreement to abide by these terms and conditions. Attendance at psychology sessions also constitutes agreement to these terms and conditions.
